Document sharing and collaboration

You can now share documents with other Folio users.

Two access levels:

  • Viewer — read the document, see all citations and sources, leave comments on any text selection.
  • Commenter — same as Viewer for now. The Commenter role will expand in a future release to include suggesting edits.

Editing stays with the document owner. Real-time co-editing is on the roadmap — this release lays the foundation.

How to share

  1. Open a document.
  2. Click Share in the top toolbar.
  3. Enter the collaborator's email address.
  4. Set the access level and send the invitation.

Collaborators receive an email invitation and can access the document from their own dashboard.

Comments

Leave inline comments on any text selection. Comments are anchored to the specific text you selected, so they stay in context even as the document changes around them.

  • Resolve and unresolve comment threads.
  • Comment authors are shown by name.
  • The document owner can delete any comment. Other users can only delete their own.

Available on Fellow and Chair plans. Documents on the Scholar (free) plan are private only.
