Writing the review itself?
Folio drafts with your own sources, checks every citation, and records a verifiable writing history — built for systematic reviews and every paper after.
What is a PRISMA flow diagram?
A PRISMA flow diagram documents how studies moved through the phases of a systematic review — from the records first identified in databases and registers, through duplicate removal and screening, to the reports assessed for eligibility and the studies finally included. Journals and reporting guidelines expect it, because it makes the selection process transparent and reproducible.
This generator produces the PRISMA 2020 version of the diagram (the current standard, from Page et al., BMJ 2021) for reviews that searched databases and registers. Fill in the count for each box, add your exclusion reasons, and download a clean, print-quality figure to drop straight into your manuscript.
How to use it
- Enter the number of records identified from databases and registers.
- Add how many were removed before screening (duplicates, automation, other).
- Fill in the screening, retrieval, and eligibility counts.
- List your exclusion reasons with their counts.
- Download the finished diagram as SVG or PNG.
Frequently asked
Is this PRISMA flow diagram generator free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up. It runs entirely in your browser, so your numbers are never uploaded or stored, and you can use the diagram in any thesis, publication, or report.
Which PRISMA version does it follow?
It follows the PRISMA 2020 statement (Page et al., BMJ 2021) — the current standard — using the flow diagram for new systematic reviews that identified records through databases and registers.
Can I download it for publication?
Yes. Download a vector SVG (scales to any size with no pixelation — ideal for journals) or a high-resolution PNG. Both are generated in your browser.
Can I add my own exclusion reasons?
Yes — add as many "reports excluded with reasons" rows as you need, each with its own count. The diagram updates live as you type.
Do I have to cite this tool?
No. The diagram is yours to use freely. You should cite the PRISMA 2020 statement itself in your methods, as journals require.
